A (children's) song flies around the world
The „Fliegerlied“ hype started in Germany in 2008, when the song stormed the singles charts, quickly became an official Oktoberfest hit and got hundreds of thousands of people singing and dancing along in marquees and at folk festivals. The “Fliegerlied” aka “So a schöner Tag” was written by children’s songwriter DONIKKL (real name Andreas Donauer), who wrote the song back in 2002 and released the original version as a single in 2008. Many cover versions followed; the best known include those by Tim Toupet and the group Die Jungen Zillertaler, both of which achieved gold status.
Since then, the “Fliegerlied” has spread globally. Children all over the world sing the cheerful dance song in kindergartens and schools, it is played at parties, folk festivals and in clubs and is even becoming increasingly popular in care homes. The song also includes a special dance choreography that is danced along to by young and old around the world and is one of the most frequently performed songs in Germany every year.
There are now numerous versions of the “Fliegerlied” in different languages, including English (“Such A Happy Day”), Italian (“Aviatore”) and Dutch (“Vliegerlied” and “Oranje Springt”). Many of these releases have achieved both gold and platinum status.
➞ The latest version of the song, a remix, was released just last month by NoooN, the well-known DJ and producer. DONIKKL himself also recently released a new version in reggae style.
