Songwriting Camp Vienna: Schedler Music brings together creative voices from German-speaking countries in Vienna and strengthens Austria’s position as a music hub
Songwriters, producers, and artists from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and England came together to write music, exchange ideas, and forge new creative connections.
But the camp was more than just a series of intensive writing sessions; it was also an expression of a strategic goal: to further strengthen Vienna and Austria as a creative hub for modern songwriting and music production. Austria boasts a wealth of exceptional talent and creative voices. At the same time, many artists, songwriters, and producers often feel compelled to leave their home base in order to build new networks or become part of larger creative structures. This is precisely where Schedler Music aims to step in and deliberately create strong creative platforms right here on the ground.
“Austria has an incredible abundance of creative talent. We believe that you don’t necessarily have to leave your local environment to be part of an international music scene. Our goal is to make these very opportunities visible and accessible right here in Vienna.” Jan-Simon Wolff, A&R Schedler Music
For the songwriting camp, a diverse mix of local and international artists and songwriters was deliberately selected. Participants included Chiara Castelli, Luca Hänni, Sean Ok, Tamara Olorga, NNOA, Tinashe Kelvin Mupani (aka Kelvin Jones), Paenda, Peter Paul Aufreiter, Ricardo Bettiol, Daniel Fellner, Skyfarmer beats, Tom Schneider (Tagtraeumer), as well as Karl and Jugo Ürdens.
The combination of diverse musical backgrounds fostered a creative dynamic spanning pop, soul, R&B, indie, and AustroPop, all with the shared goal of developing new songs for national and international release.
In addition to daily writing sessions, the program centered on group listening sessions and a shared dinner, which created opportunities for personal interaction and the formation of lasting connections.
The Songwriting Camp Vienna builds on an already established tradition at Schedler Music of organizing international songwriting camps. As early as 2013, Schedler was among the first music publishers in the German-speaking world to establish this format and has since hosted numerous camps—including in Tyrol/South Tyrol, Vienna, Berlin, and Nashville. After the company set new trends last year with Austria’s first Female Writing Camp and established the Schedler Winter Camp as a standard format, Vienna is set to be further developed as a creative hub and platform for modern songwriting.
“The energy of this week has confirmed to us that Vienna has enormous potential. We want to continue bringing people together, creating creative spaces, and helping Austria develop as an active part of the international music scene.” Alexander Schedler, Head of A&R
“The Schedler Camp in Vienna had a truly special energy!
Creative, open, and incredibly inspiring. I really enjoyed working with everyone and am taking a lot of inspiration and songs back with me from those days.” Chiara Castelli
“The Schedler Songwriting Camp was a very special event for me personally, as it was the first time I’d ever participated in something like this. What fascinated me most was the family-like atmosphere and the artist-friendly approach to the songwriting process. The focus here was clearly on supporting musicians in the songwriting process and creating great music without any pressure. Plus, they managed to build a sense of community among all the artists—as if we’d known each other forever.” Karl
„I loved the camp. The best camps find that sweet spot between creatives who share enough common ground to connect, but bring enough difference to push each other somewhere new. And when you’re lucky, the city itself becomes part of the process. Vienna definitely shaped the mood of the songs and gave the whole camp its own atmosphere.” Tinashe Kelvin Mupani (aka Kelvin Jones)
